Aspire Scholarships 2021/22

Funded by generous donations, the Aspire Scholarships are competitive awards related to travel. 

The Oblath International Enrichment Scholarship

The Oblath International Enrichment Scholarship is a fund for year 2, 3 and 4 *home full time undergraduate students who are participating in an international travel opportunity as part of or related to their study.

There will be six awards.  Award amounts vary depending on the strength of the application, but typically this fund provides awards ranging from £750 - £1,000.

The conditions of the award are as follows:

• Be a *home undergraduate student at the University of Nottingham in year 2, 3 or 4 of study.
• Have completed at least one year of study at the University of Nottingham and be on track for a minimum grade of 2:1 in their studies so far.
• Be travelling abroad in the subsequent academic year as a part of study or related to study.
• Have a household income of below £35,000 as assessed by Student Finance.

 

N Horton Smith & Aspire Travel Scholarship

The N Horton Smith & Aspire Travelling Scholarship was established in 1987 in memory of N Horton Smith, who joined the University in 1946 as assistant Lecturer in German and retired in 1979 as Professor of German.

There will be three awards of £500.

The conditions of the award are as follows:

• The Scholarship shall be open to all undergraduates of the University to assist with travel abroad related to their studies.
• Interest and ability in languages, music or fine art will be taken into account.
• The Scholarship shall be awarded annually, but no more than once to the same person.
• No award will be made unless applications of sufficient merit are received.
• Candidates must submit a completed application form to Financial Support.  

 

The Catherine Williamson Travel Scholarship

Established in 1968, the aim of the travelling scholarship is to provide funding for current and former residents of Willoughby Hall to assist with travel abroad related to their university studies in the following academic year.

Award amounts vary depending on the strength of the successful application, but typically this fund provides awards ranging from £200 to £1,000.

Additional eligibility criteria. Applicants must:

• Be a resident, or former resident, of Willoughby Hall.
• Have Home funding status (see note on page 1).
• Be registered on a first full time undergraduate course at The University of Nottingham. 
• Be in financial need due to travelling aboard in the following academic year.

 

The Monica Partridge Travel Scholarship

The Monica Partridge Travel Scholarship was established in 2015 in memory of Monica Partridge who joined the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies at the University in 1947 and retired in 1980 as Professor of Slavonic Studies.

This fund is to assist students with travel abroad related to their studies and will provide two awards of £500 each.

Additional eligibility criteria. Applicants must:

• Have Home funding status.
• Be a registered student on an undergraduate language course with an element of Russian or Serbian/Croatian.
• Be in the second year of the degree course.
• Be taking compulsory study abroad in the subsequent academic year.
• Be eligible for full UK government student financial support (i.e. assessed household incomebelow £25,000).

 * A 'home' student is one who meets certain UK residence criteria. These are the same criteria as apply to eligibility for home funding from Student Finance.
