What is our business's financial contribution to a degree apprenticeship?
All fees associated with an apprenticeship must be paid by the sponsoring employer, this includes travel and accommodation where necessary.
Funding is available to help cover the cost of programme fees and you may be eligible for incentive payments to contribute to any additional costs.

Can an existing employee undertake a degree apprenticeship?
Yes. An existing employee can undertake an apprenticeship if it is at a higher level or in a different field to any qualifications they currently hold.
Do I have to give my apprentice a day off each week?
As part of your commitment to the apprenticeship you must enable your apprentices to access 20% off-the-job learning within their paid, contracted working hours.
For a full-time contract this equates to a day each week. However, the way this time is split differs for each programme. Please contact our Employer Engagement team for more advice on how off-the-job learning is factored into the working week.
My employee has prior learning how is this factored into the apprenticeship?
As part of the application and enrolment process, we will carry out an individual needs assessment. This will enable us to determine existing levels of skills, knowledge and behaviours, and build a personal plan for each apprentice that will set out all the learning, tutorial support, and resources provided by the university.

How do I apply for a degree apprenticeship?
Before applying for a degree apprenticeship you must:
- be employed in a job role that allows you to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours associated with the apprenticeship standard.
- meet the programme entry criteria
- meet basic apprenticeship eligibility criteria.

Can the university help me find an apprenticeship role?
Do I need to pay tuition fees for a degree apprenticeship?
No. Apprentices do not pay fees, these are covered by your employer.
How much will I earn as a degree apprentice?
Apprentice’s wages are set by their employer. New vacancies will advertise the salary/wage associated with the role.
If you are an existing employee starting an apprenticeship your wages should be unaffected.
I have alternative qualifications than those detailed on the programme entry requirements, can I still apply?
Please speak to our Degree Apprenticeship Team who will be able to advise if your qualifications or experience will satisfy the entry requirements of the programme.
I work outside of England can I still apply?
Apprentices must work at least 50% of their contracted working hours in England.
I already have a degree in another subject, can I still undertake a degree apprenticeship?
Yes. You can still start an apprenticeship if it is at a higher level or in a different field to any qualifications you hold. In fact, all of our master's-level degree apprenticeships require you to have an undergraduate degree.
How do I find time to undertake my studies on top of my work?
As part of their commitment to the apprenticeship, your employer must give you access to at least 20% of your contracted hours to dedicate to your off-the-job learning. This protects this time within your working hours for study.
