Your first weeks at university will be an exciting but busy time. We have lots of activities planned to make you feel happy and settled, and support is always available if you need it. The list below will help you work through everything you’ll need to know and do in your first few weeks as a new student at Nottingham.

There are practical tasks like connecting to wifi, induction activities to get to know your school, and opportunities to meet friends with common interests through the Students’ Union.

Connect to wifi and complete registration

When you arrive on campus ensure you connect to the university’s main wireless network, called eduroam. You can stay connected wherever you are on campus.

When you connect to eduroam this automatically confirms your arrival and completes your university registration.

Attend your school induction

During your first week, you’ll be required to complete a number of subject and course-specific sessions to learn more about your course and get to know your lecturers.

You can find your induction timetable on your school or department homepage.

Collect your university card

After you've applied for your university card, it takes 8-10 days to produce. Your card collection location will vary depending on your school. Find your location by using the button below.

Attend your in-person registration appointment

Complete your registration by confirming your attendance as soon as possible and no later than three weeks after your course start date. 

If you didn't book an appointment before you arrived, you can book one now.

Collect your biometric residence permit

A biometric residence permit (BRP) is an immigration document issued onto an ID card. Check your visa decision letter to find out where to collect yours.

Complete module enrolment

You'll only need to do this if your course allows optional modules.

Get to know the Students' Union (SU)

See what your SU has in store for your time at Nottingham – find out what welcome activities are available, how to join clubs and societies, and generally make the most of your time at the University of Nottingham.

View your academic timetable

You will be able to view your academic timetable online closer to your course start date.

Book an appointment to have your Covid-19 vaccination(s)

We encourage all students to have had both vaccine doses before travelling to our campuses. Don’t worry if you haven’t - you can get them when you arrive. Just make sure you’ve registered with a local health service first. You should have already done this before you arrived but it’s not too late.
