Plenary 1: Women Organizing & Transforming the World

Cuando las personas luchan juntas, lo que una vez resultara inimaginable, de repente se vuelve posible. La plenaria de apertura abordará algunas de las preguntas centrales de este Foro: ¿Cómo entendemos los movimientos? ¿Por qué los movimientos son importantes? ¿Por qué es importante para nosotras tener esta conversación ahora?

Las oradoras nos situarán en el contexto actual, compartiendo críticas, visiones e historias de experiencias de diversos movimientos. Y porque creemos que el poder de los movimientos deriva en gran parte de una visión que compartimos apasionadamente sobre el cambio que deseamos ver en el mundo, la plenaria planteará los elementos de esta visión, dándonos energía para los días venideros y preparando el escenario para las próximas cuatro jornadas de intercambios increíblemente creativos, aprendiendo y diseñando estrategias.

When people struggle together, what was once unimaginable suddenly becomes possible. The opening plenary will address some of the core questions behind this Forum: How do we understand movements? Why do movements matter? Why is it important for us to be having this conversation now?

Speakers will situate us in the present context, sharing critiques, insights and stories of diverse movement experiences. And because we believe that the power of movements draws in large part from a passionately shared vision of the change we want to see in the world, this plenary will lay out elements of that vision, energizing us for the days ahead and setting the stage for the next four days of incredibly creative exchanges, learning and strategizing.
